Shirley Jean Wilmoth Hammond, 71, of Galax passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at her home in the Pipers Gap community. She was born September 20, 1938 to the late Arley Wilmoth and Ruby Smith Wilmoth in the city of Galax. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marguerite D. Carrico.
She is survived by her husband, John Hammond of the home; three daughters and sons-in-law, Michelle and Roger Gravely of Arrat, VA, Tracey and Greg Nester of Arrat,VA and April Hammond Edwards of Galax, VA; one sister and brother-in-law, Rita and James Whited of Stone Mountain, GA; one brother and sister-in-law, James A and Brenda Smith of Hillsville, VA; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. In lieu of flowers family request that donations be made to Twin County Hospice P.O. Box 106 Galax, VA 24333.
A graveside service will be conducted on Saturday March 13, 2010 at 12:30 pm at Monta Vista Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ted Bartlett officiating.
Twin County Funerals is serving the Hammond family.
